I am fairly new to quilting having just made one lapsize quilt. I'd like to make a simple baby quilt with the baby's picture somewhere in the middle and simple applicated shapes in the other panels. Is there any place online where I can find a pattern or enough helps to make such a quilt?
(I've bookmarked the site that tells how to make material that can be run through a computer to print a picture, so don't need help with this part of the project.)

Thanks,
Valerie Detling

I once did a grandmothers flower garden along the same lines. I used the cneter hexagon with a picture and the next ring of hexagons and used a satin stitch to sew them to a background fabric. It was done for my mother with pictures of all of us and she and my dad were in the center "flower" By using the satin stitch around the outer edges it went much faster than the traditional pattern. There is also a new pattern, new to me that is, called Aunt Hatties Garden. it is round pieces with scalloped edges and you could either fuse the pieces to the background and each other or use the blanket stitch or a satin stitch. I found it on the internet in McCalls quilting magazine. There is a spot where you can go to past isuues and this was in June '05 if I am not mistaken. It is easy to do and fast and could be adapted to almost any size just by adding or subtracting the number of blocks you need.
Maybe this will give you some ideas to get started.
Another good place for ideas is Quilter's stash. Lots of good patterns on that website.
Post a picture when you're done so that we can see your final choice and how it turned out. Good luck
Vicki

Hi Valerie,

You might try http://www.quilterscache.com
they have lots of blocks, from easy to complex. You could pick any one of them to use as the alternate block to your picture blocks. You just need to make sure they are both the same size to make it easy on yourself!

Good luck!

I finally finished the two baby quilts for two newest grandsons. I used a pattern I found on line and adapted it by adding a row and a column to make the 5 pictures come out right. The non-picture squares consist of appliqued hearts and boxes created by cutting 4 triangles in lined material and sewing them together.
Hopefully I can can download pictures of the two quits. However, when I just tried to do this using the "Attach Files" function, I saw no evidence that the pictures were downloaded. Probably need some help going this accomplished.
