Default Making an "Oh My Gosh" quilt--pure insanity or not? I'd love some tips from the sage.

So, I saw this quilt a few months ago and can not get it out of my head. I've googled and there are several other ones online to admire as well.

This is the quilt I'm talking about: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...ed-t92088.html

I've never made blocks near this small before. From what I gather, the 9 patches and HST are 1.5 inches finished. I can't tell if that "finished" is after the initial construction of the 9 patch--or after it is sewn into the entire quilt which would make it 2 inches?? The 4 patches in the on point patch are said to be 1 inch. So, I am assuming that when the "on point" triangles are added it makes it equal to the 9 patches and HST. I haven't played around yet and I'm thinking I'm probably going to burn myself unless I get a small iron.

Questions: Do I have the dementions for the blocks correct (the strips for the 9 patch should be cut at 1 inch so that when the 3 strips are sewn together, they are 1.5 in width--after sewn with the rest of the blocks)?

Should I get a small or mini iron (what size in inches do you think would be best--I have a full size iron only)?

I am going to use Fairy Frost fabrics (I have about 32 different FQ's right now of yellows, pinks, lavendar/purple, greens/teals and blues) and are planning to use a solid or white on white. Many of the quilts use a small print for the background fabric. Do you think it would be better to find a background that has tiny splatters of some color or will white be good?

I think the white on white will be just perfect! This is going to be beautiful with your color choices of Fairy Frosts! Can't wait to see the finished product!!!

Slightly off topic - but could you please tell me where you got your Fairy Frost FQ?? I bought my first one (black with silver sparkles) at the Paducah Quilt Show this year and have decided that I need more of that fabulous stuff. I have looked on the internet but am not sure just what to look for - the fabric with the sparkles.

I have that pattern, and have been collecting fabrics for over a year. I will be watching your progress, I am not ready to start my quilt yet as I have so many UFO's to finish first. That quilt caught my eye and I can't wait to get it started. I have chosen white on white and ecru prints for the background and various fat quarters for the colors. I think I will have a scrappy look, at least I hope so. Good luck with your quilt.

On this site ( http://www.generations-quilt-pattern...osh-quilt.html ) says that the nine patch and the little 4 square patches finish at 1 inch so they would be 1.5 in unfinished. I've never seen that quilt before but now it's on my list of quilts to make someday...lol!

I haven't made this one ... though did see it at a Quilt Show this winter.

I've been thinking of it as a want to do sometime (and that usually means soon!) ... whether it becomes a full bed quilt? or a table topper? or somewhere in between?

It'd be a perfect scrappy project that I'd just make with bits and pieces as they are leftover from other projects.

I have not made that pattern but I have seen one and all I can say is "oh my GOSH! I see you are using Fairy Frost and it is lovely but be careful with ironing it. I ironed some white and I found that the right side stuck to my iron. When ironing make sure to iron from the back.

if you do a search on this board, there are several members who have made oh my gosh quilts. i am making a quilt with 1.5" squares and use my regular rowenta iron (which is a monster size) just fine. however, i believe the size pieces you will be working with here are smaller so a mini clover iron may benefit you well.

good luck with your project and i will be looking forward to seeing your progress and eventual finished quilt. this quilt will not be added to my bucket list. i will just admire it from afar as it is a beautifully amazing quilt project.
