Default Making a quilt from dance recital costumes

My granddaughter has asked me to make a quilt from her senior classes dance recital costumes. I want to know how this can be done with costumes that are slick and stretchy material like Lycra. Has anyone tried this? Thank you!

I would stabilize the material like you would a T-Shirt quilt. Or like you would a crazy quilt. I know others will possibly have better suggestions but that's all I can think of at the moment for stretchy fabric.

It sure wouldn't be a quilt anyone could really use, I don't think....based on what my dance costumes were made of....a million years ago!! Might make an interesting wall hanging though.

I would make a crazy quilt. The lycra should be sewn with a ball point needle and a stretch stitch if you have one on your machine. You can even use the trim from the costumes to embellish the seams.

It can be done, a friend of mine is doing the same thing, her granddaughter graduates this next year. Be sure and like was posted use stabilizer. Do a search on the internet.... I just put in dance uniform quilt and some beautiful pictures and lots of ideas came up...

We have quite a few costumes left from years ago. What would you do with the sleazy satin they used?

That sounds like an interesting idea! What kind of dance style outfits are you using? Ballroom, Latin dance outfits? Would love to see pictures of your progress!

I notice the commenter has only made one comment on the forum, so I'm guessing that they stumbled across this post through a random internet search on a preferred topic (I went from quilts to house insulation to plumbing DIY the other day thanks to a rabbit trail I followed) and they then responded, not realizing it was old.
