I have a Quilters Dream Deluxe poly batt that is really thick, and I assume it would be really warm too. You can always double the batting for more thickness too. Flannel or fleece on the back (or front) makes for a thicker, warmer quilt.

You could make a quilted duvet cover, instead. Being a cover, it'd be much easier to wash/clean.

I agree with Neesie! If you make the batting too thick, you can't machine or hand quilt it so your only option is to tie or tack the quilt.

DH usually puts a cover on when watching TV. So for his birthday he got a flannel (front and back) quilt with Dream Wool batt. He says it very comfortable. And it's washable.

You may not need to go thicker , use a wool batting.

Go with wool. It's not necessarily thicker but certainly warmer. Take care, Sophie.
