Making a two color queen size chevron quilt

I want to sew a two color queen chevron quilt but cannot figure out how much material to buy. I want to make it with half triangles. I've seen a pattern that uses 9-inch squares which then are cut into 8.5-inch squares but no information on fabric amounts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

look at fabric designers sites, like Robert Kaufman. They usually have some free patterns and you may find the info you need.

Fabric usually has about 42 usable inches, you can cut four 9 inch squares across.
A yard is 36 inches, you can also cut four rows of squares down.
So you get 16 squares from a yard of fabric.
You are working with 2 colors of fabric, a yard of each will be 16 pairs. Each pair of squares will be 2 HST blocks, or 32 blocks.
A "queen size" doesn't provide enough info on how large a quilt you want. The mattress top is about 60 X 80, but you need to decide how much of a drop you want. Could be as little as 4" or as much as 20" or more. Do you want it to tuck under the pillow etc.

Paper Princess is correct. There is NO specific size that is queen since different size blocks produce different sizes of quilts. Take a tape measure and get an estimation of the size of quilt you want. Then find out how the finished size of 8" will divide into your measurements. Easy to calculate your fabric. Unfortunately there will be waste if you use the 9" square because most fabrics are 42" wide so you will only get FOUR 9" squares from a 1/4 yard of fabric thus producing 8 HST. Count the number of HST you need for your quilt divided by 8. Then that number will tell you how many quarter of a yard you will need to buy. Remember that four 9" will equal a yard of fabric. This design uses 8" finished blocks and should measure 90"x106". Hope this helps!

I made this one from 2 jelly rolls, but since I made them from rectangles and not triangles (wanted to avoid bias edges), I'm not sure that helps you much.
