Default Maple Leaf pattern

I have decided to do a quilt using the Maple Leaf pattern. I think I will use Moda Marbles in the fall colors. I can't decide on what color to do the background in. I'm not real big on black for this. I'm sure it would make the colors look good, but not wanting to use black. Would you use a light colored marble for this? What do you think would work?

Thanks

Maybe a navy blue, or a sky blue?

I would use a pale gold marble, or the darkest dark burgandy i could find.

I would use a pretty gray, maybe more on the blue/gray side. I love gray and it would look like an autumn sky looking up through the trees.

I think a light creamy beige batik would be pretty. Just make sure it has enough contrast with your lightest leaf fabric.

In an article on color Weeks Ringle also used a Gray Brown as a neutral for tone on tones. This made me think of walking through fall leaves and how the bright colors pop against the Gray/Brown of the ground. The blue is a good idea too. Think of maple trees against a clear blue sky on a sunny day. NOTHING more beautiful! It would be a very colorful quilt so that would have to be the look you are wanting. Let us know what you decide.

I am using a light cream on mine. Even the tan one shows up pretty well.
