I have a question for those of you who are MDG regulars. They had a ton of MDG fabrics that would be considered blenders at a great price. But they didn't feel like LQS quality - lots of sizing, a bit rough. I bought a few yards to test but wondered what your experience has been. I did buy 5 yards each of their solid dream cotton in black and white - it felt like good quality. But I didn't want to buy a lot of the blenders and then not use them once I got them home.

I only buy the name brand fabric there. I have used some of the MDG fabric but it lacks the feel of my favorite brands. It is good fabric just not my favorite.

I've never been lucky enough to actually visit the store but recently I ordered 38 yards of various blenders. Just went and checked to see if I could spot the manufacturers but there wasn't anything on the selvage. I prewash my fabric, so with the ironing, I handled the fabric quite a bit. The particular ones I ordered are a good weight and have a nice hand. I know there are a lot of qualifiers in this comment but I would order from them again. At their prices I am willing to take the chance.

The "good stuff" they carry is the fabric made by well known manufacturers. On the bolt end it says only "famous name" or something like that, but the salesman can tell you who manufactured it, if you don't recognize it. They have tons of Michael Miller, Joel Dewberry, and everyone else! It's the closeout lines from the previous year(s) that they get in on huge rolls. Then they 'bolt' it off the rolls and put the "famous name" label on it so they can sell it so cheaply. If the bolts say "Marshall's Dry Goods" then it is the stuff they manufacture themselves. Nice fabric, but not as nice as the "famous". The Dream Cotton is basically the same thing as Moda's Bella Solids... made at the same factory so you do the math.... It's much cheaper tho. I love that stuff, even more than Kona cotton. You really can't get a scope of the best they carry from their website. They mostly promote their own fabric on their website.

SewBiz: Thanks for the info on the "Dream Cotton". I'm on a perpetual hunt for good quality solids.

If I ever get within a days drive of their location nothing will keep me away. Would love to see it in person, the pictures of their warehouse are just mind boggling.
