Math to figure out backing fabric help!
My quilt is 72.5 by 87.5 inches. I want to buy minky that is 60 inches wide. How many yards do I need? How do I figure this out? Is there a book out there that can help me?

No matter what, you will need to seam the minky. IF you could handle less fluff, there is a wide fleece that is sold by JoAnn's. It is either 80 or 85 wide. You could buy 2.75 yards and have plenty. Would probably cost less too!

thank you krafty14 and quiltingshe! I looked at the Robert Kaufman quilting calculator and there was one review that was negative that has scared me from purchasing it.
I have decided to purchase some minky that is 90 inches wide so that my back will not have a seam. It will cost me 20.00 a yard but I will only need two yards. I will not have to do the sewing. The store that I'm buying the back from will also sew my quilt. It's called "Quilts on the Corner" they only do quilting from edge to edge, you can choose designs that fit your quilt. Quilts on the Corner is owned by Renae Haddadin, who is an award winning quilter (think "best of show" at Paducah - she's that good). She is also the Innova dealer for her area. She won't be the one quilting your quilt (she hires people to do the longarming in her store), but you can rest assured that it will be done well.

Thank you for all that have responded! I will get the RK calculator now that I know that it's free! Thank you Dunster for your thoughts on the store "Quilts on the corner" I am thinking seriously of taking their class on learning to quilt my own quilts at this store! sounds like I might save some money and have some fun doing it!

I use the Robert Kaufman app all the time. It was a free download on my iphone...
