This might be a little long, so I apologize in advance!

A few weeks ago I posted about how my husband has been out of work, and I was tickled when I got an unexpected sale price on a fabric I needed to finish a project. Well, the next day along came a PM from a dear woman on the "other coast". She wanted to send me some of her abundant scraps and said it was her way of paying it forward to honor God. I was floored and at first did not want to accept. After enjoying all the "fat" years when I have been able to give, it is very hard to be on the other end - receiving.

She quietly insisted, so I told her I would appreciate fabric so I could sew my customary quilt for the military vets my school honors each year at Christmas. This sweet woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, not only ordered me several yards of NEW patriotic fabrics, she also sent a three pound box of leftovers from her projects!

Since then we have become distant (3000 miles apart) quilting board friends! I am blessed to tears. So, even though Matthew's Gramma has asked not to have her name mentioned here, she knows who she is, and that I appreciate her very much.

I have attached pictures of the patriotic fabric, plus the yellow I am thinking of adding to make a nice simple log cabin - maybe with a star in the center? If anyone has any other ideas for how to use this fabric, please let me hear them.

Good nite, Matthew's Gramma, and God Bless. I'll talk to you soon. Hope your garden flourishes this spring!

Yes, I can't wait to give the quilt I make to a lucky soldier, and be able to tell him or her how it was made by the joint efforts of two complete strangers from opposite sides of this great nation of ours - the ones our dear soldiers fight to protect!

Peaceful Quilter,

I am so happy for you! I had a similar experience here on the board! I asked for some floral scrap donations to make a quilt for my mother, who has been in and out of the hospital and in some bad shape.

I'm in a fairly new career and don't make enough to do much more than pay the essentials, and my sister/ roommate was recently laid off, so I have a 0 dollar quilting budget right now, and I'm a new quilter so I didn't have a "stash."

It was hard to ask for help, but I got so much more help than I thought possible! Over 25 wonderful quilters from this board were blessings to me and sent me more fabric than I had ever hoped for! I had to clean out 2 drawers in my dresser to hold it all. I now have enough for a quilt for my mom, and enough for a couple lap quilts that I plan to make and donate to the VA. I got yards of fabric, some obviously new and matched, of fabulous quality, and all of it evoked so so much joy!

One quilter even sent me a 50 dollar gift certificate! I have been humbled to tears more than once by my experience, and have been reminded again of the strength and beauty of fellow man.

I am blessed just to hear about your wonderful experience.

God bless, and happy mothers day!

How nice of her. Both of you are so generous to give to a service men and women. My son is active duty navy and a nephew active duty army. Thanks for the lovely story. Make me teary eyed also. Happy Mothers Day to both of you and all the other mothers on the board.

It just confirms what I tell everyone "Quilters are the most generous and kindness people I've ever known". God bless you both!
