I'm so thrilled!!! Tonight I attended a Judy Martin trunk show at our wonderful LQS, Threads of Time in Danville Illinois. It was the grand opening of their big new conference center. There were 100 quilters all in one big beautiful well-lit room. Judy brought so many quilts! The room was lined with her quilts and there was a huge stack of folded ones too. After she spoke about each quilt on the wall the "quilt boys" (husbands of ladies that work at Threads) went up and start unfolding and holding up each quilt as she talked about it. Then we had door prizes (I won one!!! YEA!!) and a book signing. If any of you ever get the chance to go to one of her speaking engagements DO IT!!! She was hilariously funny and very personable. If any of you ever get the chance to get a group together for a retreat check out Threads and Beds---a wonderful and inexpensive (only $35 a night) place to stay and sew. If any of you ever get the chance to even stop in at their store it's a super place to visit.

I am going to look into this in the fall and winter, I LOVE retreats, on a retreat board, and always eager to learn more. Thanks for the info.

They can be contacted at

I believe you can go to their website and arrange dates for retreats or ask if there's an "open" retreat. Anyway, you can get the phone # from there if you want call. It's such a cool place that you can't help fall in love with it. I mean, can you imagine a quilting store full of battings, backings, blenders, batiks, asian prints, 30s and 40s, contemperary, CW, and everything in between, a retreat center with beds, showers, kitchens, sewing rooms, and a conference center all in the same place??? There's also a yarn store in the same bldg. It's all on one level, handicap accessible, and there's 6 very LARGE design walls! Add to that a wonderfully friendly helpful staff and it just doesn't get any better than that on this earth. There was a published quilter in there the other day and she told them that she was amazed. She said that she's traveled all over the country, done shows in several LQS's in every state including Alaska and Pueto Rico and Threads was far and above any place she'd ever been. When the owner said that they were shooting for having the best place in the Midwest, the woman said "The Midwest??? This is the best place in the United States!"

What a neat looking store !

What did you win

I can't believe how affordable the retreat center is  You could get a group together for a weekend and not spend a ton of money. Have you ever went to any of the retreats ?

Well I'll tell you right now, I'm not that much of a thrill to meet---just a regular old Pentacostal lady with no makeup and really long hair. LOL
What I won was a Second Night Stay at Threads and Beds!! Yes, all I have to do is pay for one night and I get the second night free!!!! That's a $35 gift and let me tell you, I was thrilled to death to win it. Some of the ladies got fabric--I believe it was either 4 or 5 12"(? maybe more) squares of color coordinated Moda fabric which was also a wonderful gift. Since it was promoted as a "Stellar Star Event" the whole theme was stars. Upon registering every one got a large star to stick on their shirt, some of the large stars had a small star in the center and those were the people that won the door prizes. After the show they told those of us with stars to pick up a gold tin from one of the baskets on the registration tables. Voila! I picked up a tin and won a free night's stay.

I LOVE little old Pentacostal ladies! I am rather irreverent, but tons of fun, no comments on the rear end, OK? I know my butt is big.

I have an assymetrical haircut, color my hair, wear makeup (sometimes) and love to be a goof. I think we are a match!

Okay, we'll have to get together at Threads of Time for a retreat! Maybe we can talk a few more board members into joining us. It's just barely over the Illinois/Indiana line so maybe some from Indiana?

Next month Carol Doak is going to be there. I signed up early so I was a lucky one that got in the class--it's full now with a waiting list but there's still seats available for the show.
