You could use it as part of a quilt or wallhanging, but the first thing that popped into my mind was a mug rug, with a picture of him on it.

I am sorry but I disagree. I think someone who lost their husband would want to snuggle up in the shirt in a quilt, and not use it to rest their coffee on or hang on a wall. I understand the suggestion because of the limited amount of fabric but I think she would prefer a quilt. Please ask her before you start because you can't undo a mistake. I might ask her for a few more flannel shirts. I would use it for the center of a star and make multiple stars with sashing in between or even do a rag quilt.

what about pairing it with the black, blue and the neutral color in the shirt and making a small lap quilt for her? You could you this fabric for a center hst star or and piece the others colors surrounding it.
I quickly found these that i think would be knock outs with these colors:

or Debbie Maddy's Ashleigh or Carpentar Star or even the Josephine Knot... http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/sto...1&parent_ids=0

Have fun with it! She'll love whatever you make.

My friend will be over next week and we will review all suggestions and then decide what she wants made of the shirt. I forgot to add that she will be involved in the process and all comments are well taken.

Friend's mom made teddy bears from her late husband's shirts, for all their children. Yours doesn't look quite heavy enough for the body of a bear, but perhaps for a bear's shirt and/or trousers?

The first thing that jumped to mind is a quilt block that looks like a star. Then use it as a pillow. I agree that it needs to be something that is "snuggled" with once it's done.

As a former Hospice worker, we used to offer this service to families. Taking an article of clothing and creating a remembrance. We ALWAYS asked what they wanted. Most of the items we created were pillows, but occasionally (depending on the fabric) we made teddy bears. I also like the idea of clothing for a teddy bear.

Thank you for doing this for your friend. ((hugs))

Got to thinkin' (I know a dangerous thing)
If you did want to make a teddy bear from the fabric, you could back it with a sturdy interfacing.

I am doing a memory quilt for my sister in law, using all of my mother in laws old clothes. If she has some more clothes to give, try for a crazy quilt!
