The website says Hampton, VA--I believe at the new convention center.

Hi Rose--I attended the Mid Atlantic quilt show twice when I was living in the DC area. It is a fabulous show. It was fun to get away mid-winter and see all the lovely fabrics and quilts. I recommend it to anyone who can attend.

Marcia,
is it possible to just go to the show and not anything else? the website is a little overwhelming. Is it possible to see all the quilts displayed in one day? I was thinking of leaving early and driving back the same day (3 hour drive each way). I know it would be a long day.
thanks,
Rose

Rose, I was thinking the same thing. It would make a long day, but should be a fun break in the middle of winter. I've never been to a large quilt show.

where are you coming from?

the show itself is great. there is a LOT to see. if you want a good look at all the quilts and all the vendors it really takes more than a day. if you check the info you'll see that it doesn't open until, what?, 10-ish? somewhere along the line you have to stop for at least a coffee. you can do it in one day, but that's pushing it. you really won't have time to appreciate the quilts on display. you'll also want to see all the latest doo-dads. more than 1 day, but you could do it in 1-1/2 days. i know, i know, that requires an overnight.
i've been 2x and easily killed 2 days watching new items being demonstrated and seeing all the fabrics and all the quilts. like all the other shows, nothing is inexpensive, but everything is yummy. bring your own lunch. everything they sell is tasteless.

yes. you can definitely go just to see the quilts. depending on how closely you examine them, that should take AT LEAST the whole morning, one coffee break (no lunch) and most of the afternoon. if you want to see the venders also, well...... . if you push for one day i don't know that 3 hours each way is worth the time you'd have to spend. i think they close at 6. check that. i've loved it, but i committed to 2 days with a friend. with the wristband you can return as many times as you like. i don't believe there are any cheap motels too near the convention center.

Rose--I spent two days at the show both times I went. I met friends there and we shared a hotel room. We spent one day just looking at quilts and one day shopping the vendors. If you are only interested in seeing the quilts then you can do it in one day, but if you want to shop too, then I think you will be very frustrated trying to do it all in one day. A lot of driving time for just one day. Can you find a friend who might want to go with you and share expenses??? It is so fun to go with someone else who appreciates quilting, too. You have someone to talk to about the things you see.

And don't forget your camera!!!
