    Default Minky for backing???

I'm ready to FMQ my baby quilt, I have it all pinned and spray basted, the top is a pieced cotton top and the backing is mink, Do I quilt with the minky facing up and the pieced top facing to the bed of the machine or the pieced top facing up and minky down..

I have always FMQ all the quilts with the pieced top up so I could see where the quilting would be on the designs... and never have used minky for a backing so don't know which it should be...Thanks

I have always quilted either on my domestic machine or LA with the minky on the back.

I quilt them with the pieced side up and the minky down. I do find that the minky doesn't slide the same as a lighter backing, but sprayed my surface with silicone spray, wiped it off well, and it slid better. I thought that minky would be harder to quilt, but didn't find that it was.

    Good luck.

I've only done one with minky so far. I spray basted and had the minky on the bottom and used a walking foot. It turned out great, no puckers or issues. I now have another basted ready to go.

WOW, all I have read on this site was that Minky should be sewn on a LA with the minky on top. I sewed a pillow for a disable person in a wheel chair and it looked like I had sewn a piece of junk because it shifted so much even when I was stitching on the straight of grain. I probably should have used a walking foot. I will never use that fabric again. Ricky LOVED the pillow.

I use minky on the back of quilts frequently. I load them on my long arm just as regular cotton fabric. Its stretchy so you don't tighten it too much.

Hi, I am not as experienced as many on this board, but I have made two baby quilts with Minky backs. I quilted with the minky down – otherwise, it would have been impossible to see just where I wanted the quilting. Both were quite easy and came out just as I had hoped they would. Show us pictures when you are finished. ;-)

I have mainly use Minky and fleeces as wadding, with a thin cotton/poly sheet as backing, to counter the stretching. Have also spray basted some that I didn't use a backing, both on the DM and the longarm.
