Default Miss Penny is taking me shopping at Whittle's today. Really excited!

This morning after a doctor appointment (me), Miss Penny (Country1) is taking me to Whittle's Fabric store. To those of you not familiar with Whittle's , it's a fair sized steel building, well lit and with places for husbands and boyfriends to set while their sig others spend money on the biggest selection of fabric for miles around at the best prices I've ever seen. I'll be controlling myself though, and buying only material and thread only enough for my first quilt. I've decided a 9 patch with borders in a twin size would be a good starting point. It shall be a user quilt, not one to set folded and unused. When someone is in the recliner dozing, it shall cover them fully. Now at 6 feet 4 inches tall and 300 plus pounds, it takes more than a lap quilt to cover me if I am the one dozing. None of this "choose your arms or feet to keep warm because you can't have both" stuff for me. SO excited folks. Don

What city is Whittle's in??? My DD lives in Paducah and we go to see her several times a year and a side trip is always welcomed! After we go to Hancock's of Paducah though.

Thank you all for the encouraging words. Whittle's is in Brownsville, Edmonson County. Right there with Mammoth cave National Park. Folks my quilt will be made using three machines (I plan). Our hand crank 201-4 from 1934, a vintage 1950's 99K I have converted to hand crank, and handsome Mr. Ivy, my Janome (New Home) 532. Of course "the best laid plans of mice and men" human condition may intervene (arthritis). We'll see. Don

Well, I just turned pea green with envy. I love Whittles and you're going to have sooooooo much fun!

You quilt sounds like a good one to get started with and I hope you have a great time working on it.

Whittles carries a HUGE selection of Civil War Era repros - because they are usually somewhat subdued in color, and many prints read almost like a solid from a little distance, I think they're great for mens' quilts. And there are sooooo many prints in each color - you could go with an indigo & tan/cream color scheme and use dozens of different prints. You might find everything you need just in the fat quarters.

Have a great time and show us what you bought!
