Here is some info about Mistyfuse. I've never used it, but will try it sometime.

I read this tip sheet, but still don't get how you get the shapes needed for applique. With Steam a Seam you can trace them onto the paper & then cut out shapes.

You fuse it to the fabric under a pressing sheet then cut your shape out - it's not an alternative to fusibles like Steam a Seam, it has different uses - for eg, if making a landscape quilt and wanting to messy cut patches of foliage, you would fuse the MF to the fabric first then messy cut your pieces. As I said, you can also use it to fuse things like Angelina fibres or silk waste as it is translucent when pressed. It isn't for regular applique as it has no paper back to draw on.

You could probably draw the shape on the fabric with chalk and cut on the line.

You can sandwich it between fabric and a piece of freezer paper and use the freezer paper to trace applique. This is what many people do.
