I have seen these on this site are they the same as stack and whack??? Where can I find the pattern would like a free one if possible. One block wonder

Do a search on OBW on this site. There are lots of posts and a great tutorial.

Look at the Topic Heading for all the info regarding the differences. And I wouldn't recommend attempting one without one of the books by Maxine Rosenthal - I've seen too many ppl come unstuck relying on the free tutes. They don't go far enough either in the technical explanations but more importantly, in the design layout advice. http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual_section_list.jsp

There are several names for a similar pattern.

Cutebuns has done one called the hexagon quilt and her method is soooooo easy! I have one started and even showed my quilting group how to do one using her method. Some of the books show you how to fussy cut to get particular designs, the method below has you cut triangles to make the most out of your fabric.
