More unfinished quilt blocks & DD wants to learn to quilt!

Gee, my SIL will be keep me busy for awhile! I'm already working on finishing a beautiful 30's/40's log cabin quilt that was started by her grandmother that I plan on giving back to her, and now she gives me another project. These are applique' butterflies in various stages of completion. I LOVE butterflies, and the fabric is the same color as the log cabin so I'm guessing again it may be 30's/40's time frame also. Not exactly sure what I'll do with them, but I just LOVE the history behind them.
On ANOTHER note, I'm SEW stoked that my 10-year-old daughter decided this weekend that she wants to learn to hand quilt! Immediately I put together a small project, and she's been working on it all weekend. She said she really likes it, so we sit together on the couch at night & quilt together. She wasn't really interested in learning to piece on my machines, but is like the hand quilting part. How COOL is that!

That is cool that your DD wants to learn to hand quilt. Neither one of my daughters have an interest in any sort of sewing whatsoever. Bummer for me, I was so willing to teach.
They are both adults now with children of their own and have to call me occasionally and ask a "how too" question.

I'm SO excited about DD. For years I've been trying to get her interested in quilting, but to no avail. THEN, out of the blue, she says she wants to learn. Woo-Hoo!!! I'm so happy, AND handquilting!! It's such a dying art form. I know she's seen Andrea's wholecloths on the board here, and was in awe.
Attached is a pic of her project. Another cool thing is she's using a 12" Barnett's lap top hoop, and it's a perfect size for her lap. Here I thought I'd use it for traveling. Never thought it's a great size for a child to learn on. :)

OK, here's my idea for these unfinished blocks. I based this on an idea sent to me by a friend seen here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/53421581...uilt-green-and I LOVE the colors, and this is about as close as I have in my 'stash'. I'll probably cut the butterfly blocks down to a finished size of 10", and it will be my first all hand piece/hand quilt project. It'll be nice to have one to take on the go now that softball season is starting. LOTS of handwork; hand applique, hand embroidery, hand piecing, and hand quilting. I'll do a nice little pattern in each of the solid green blocks, just like the one in the finished picture. Should keep me busy for a very long time!
