i am attempting to make some rug mugs for gifts. what do you use as batting? i made one with flannel as batting but it just didn't seem thick enough.

I fused Pelon 987 to the backside of each layer, it gives a stiffer look and feel to the finished rugs.

A mug rug is kind of a large coaster, big enough for a mug of coffee or cocoa and a snack. If you do a search, you will see a lot of really nice ones, like mini-mini quilts.

What ever suits you. Bits of leftover fleece is fine. There is a thermal fabric you can buy for pots holders and stuff that works.

I use a layer of scrap batting and a layer of thinsulate in mine. I wanted to make sure my tables were protected from heat as well as spills.
