I hope someone can help before I take my machine to a shop for them to have a look at.
I was piecing some block (chain piecing), all was fine then all of a sudden it tried to eat my fabric and the bobin thread got jammed.
I have taken of the bottom plate and cleaned out the bobbin area, the bobbin and bobbin case all looked fine.
Put it all back together (extra careful putting in the bobbin case) tried a different bobbin, new needle, rethreaded, all the usual things, still doing it and causing a birds nest underneath and a terrible clunking noise.
Looking further, as the thread comes around the bobbin case the bobbin case seems to want to lift up a bit so the thread doesn't go around it smoothly.
I have put the bobbin case in at least a dozen times being extra careful that the little arrows line up and that its seated in properly but it's still doing it
Anyone else have a similar problem??? What was the outcome??
Thanks for your help, I just want to sew

I had done this on my 6500, and it's very similar to the 7700, which I now have. One thing to check is the bobbin case itself. When this happened to me, while it was jamming the needle made several stabs on the bobbin case. They were on the flat area towards the back of the case where you would think it wouldn't make it difference, but it does. My husband sanded off the plastic that was sticking up as a result of the jabs and all was well. I believe the bobbin thread was getting snagged on those little pieces sticking up. As soon as I could I replaced the bobbin case.

I would also check to make sure you didn't break off a small piece of your needle and check your threading again just to make sure the thread is properly seated. I know you said you did that, but one more time can't hurt.

I'd also check to see if there's not some small piece of thread hanging around in the bobbin area or feed dogs.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply

The bobbin case seemed to have the teeniest little burr, which I smoothed over. I tried again and it is still doing it, and it also seem to be cutting my top thread which I didn't notice before because I was using the same colour.
Grrr, so frustrating, I love this machine, but it is being so naughty. :(

I too have a Janome and the same thing happened. I changed the thread I was using--from old fashioned spools to thread on a cardboard core. No more problem.
The thread was catching on the spool and then breaking and somehow I would end up with just what you described.

I have the Janome 6500 and my bobbin case was doing the same thing. It was rattling, growling, thumping and jamming up with thread. I found out from the Janome 6500/6600 forum on line group (it wasn't in the manual!!!!) that there is an oil wick under the bobbin case in a little hole (it's not lint because some owners have pulled it out) that sometimes dries out and needs a drop of oil occassionaly. Does your machine have this too? That drop of oil made an instant fix. My dealer made me very angry and kept telling me that my problems were caused by "operator error" and never once oiled this spot or mentioned it even though I had my machine back to the shop three times and they kept it at least two or three weeks every time.

I'll give those things a try before I give the store a call in the morning. I also posted it on the Janome 7700 yahoo group. I hope it's something simple as the store is on the otherside of town and I have lots I need to do tomorrow
Thanks for your help everyone :)
