Hello,
I have two really, I like to work on them too. Anyway, my black one is USA made and has the lubricant holes for the motor, it runs like a champ and always has. My white one is British made and has no lubricant holes and the motor is running hot, even after just a couple of straight stitches.....anyone know what is going on with it? Also the wheel turns toward me very sluggish and slow, almost too hard, and this one has a different pedal than the other Featherweights, it has a pedal that even pushing both feet it is struggling. It used to run great. I don't know what's going on with it, and I can usually fix these myself, but the white ones that are British made have wired in motors as in not with a plug in.....if I am making sense here. Anyway, you can reach me here or at [email protected] and if you live in Las Vegas, NV please let me know of someone who might be able to look at this, I'm petrified to just take it in somewhere, because I am VERY cautious as to who works on them besides myself. I completely rebuilt an old 1926 66 machine, and a 99 one as well, and I worked on a 301A and got it back up to tip top shape, so this one really has me stumped.
Thanks for any input.
Connie

Sounds like you need to use a step up converter if it has the 220v motor still on it. Or if thats not it then the motor needs to be torn down and brushes replaced and the armature deglazed.

Before you take your FW anywhere, contact Graham Forsdyke, who is an expert in FWs. His website is http://www.singer-featherweight.com or you can contact him through the Yahoo! Featherweight group. He is in England, but will also talk you through a problem over the phone.

Graham is a lady from England, and I have emailed her, and she has answered, I have a photo of her somewhere. At least it sure looked like a woman to me ;-). She did help me with my other one. The white one is a puzzle, HOWEVER I FOUND the problem and fixed it!!! It had a bearing or bushing that was "resting" against the motor when I took the top screw off, and somehow the belt had slipped, and I didn't notice it. It runs perfect again, and I am SOOOOO grateful and happy.

Thank you everyone. Since it is 31 Dec., HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL.

Hi Billy and all, No the 220v is not on it, it's a 110-120 and I looked it up in the newest (3rd) edition book of Nancy I never spell her last name right, maroon color book that is an absolute necessity for featherweight owners. Anyway, by making those two adjustments, it's purring along perfectly again. Thanks for the help.

I am so glad you found out what was wrong and it was an easy fix!! It always feels good when you fix your own machine and get it purring like new again.
