I have had this Elna carina sewing machine for ages. It says 'electronic' but it must be an early years compared to what I see on machines now! My kids were little when I bought it and made a lot of clothing for them. But I was just playing with the feet that came with it - yeah, after probably 20 years, I am playing with it's feet!! There is a 'darning foot" that attaches to the shank. First you cover the feed dogs with another little plate with a hole in it for the needle and thread to pass. I set it to regular stitching but to stitch length "0". I think I have to make a small wallhanging to play with but it looks like FMQ to me!! And then there is a 'hemming' foot that has an adjustable guide that I think might be able to do 'stitch in the ditch'.
Have any of you used your sewing machine's feet for something other than what the manual says they are for?

I have done stitch in the ditch with the zipper foot because the needle rides almost along the edge of the foot.

Me, too. As a matter of fact since I have a Pfaff and everything is metric, I use the zipper foot a lot since it's so skinny.

Wow, I need to try this. I would have never thought of that on my own. Thanks.

I use my regular foot for the 1/4 inch because I know where to put the fabric. I've used the zipper foot for the SITD. I didn't have any other feet until just recently. Use whatever works for you. Every dollar saved on gadgets is another dollar you can spend on fabric.

Yes, I use an edge stitching foot for all of my piecing. This foot has a flange on the right side. After setting my needle position I run my fabric along this flange and get very accurate 1/4" seams. :-D

OK - I am ready to go play some more with the feet. I've seen some expensive attachments out there and you are so right, Raptureready, using what I have frees up fabric money!

Mine have been in the bag for years! I need to get them out and see what works for me. Thanks for this topic.
