I'm looking for a pattern name that starts with a hexagon and surrounding hexagons are formed by sewing strips of fabric along hexagon sides rather than sewing hexagon to hexagon like a Grandmothers Flower Garden. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Welcome to the Quilting Board!

I'm looking for a pattern name that starts with a hexagon and surrounding hexagons are formed by sewing strips of fabric along hexagon sides rather than sewing hexagon to hexagon like a Grandmothers Flower Garden. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

No, but I like your suggestion, too. Thanks!
do you mean like a log cabin only starting with a hexagon instead of a square?
That's the idea. Do you know the pattern name and where I can find it?
There is a Jelly roll pattern called Wee Spin that is constructed this way.
Fonz and Porter (Mary Fonz) did one one their PBS program in January. It was really easy they way they did it. I am thinking of doing this block too.
Missouri Quilt Co has a video tutorial for this, using jelly roll strips and their half-hexie ruler. I am making one now and I like it. The tutorial is on their website.
I only found patterns for octagons in my files, one is called Stone Log Cabin the other is Lotus lane by quiltmaker.com/web extras. Stone log cabin is paper pieced, the Lotus file comes with templates. Nice ones all the same and free.
