Why do you name your quilts? I've noticed a lot of people do, but I never heard of it until I got to this board.

I name all my quilts. I don't know why but I do.. I like being creative and coming up with the names. I'm working on a grandmother's garden quilt that is pink (2 shades), green and white. I am going to name it Peonies for Mom. The reason for the name...because she loved peonies and they were the last flowers I gave her before her passing. So to everyone else it will look like just another grandmother's garden quilt but to me its Mom.

I do for a few reasons.
1.) If it's my original pattern I'd like to have a unique name.
2.) If I give a quilt to a person, I like to have it have a special name instead of "Terry's Quilt" "Bobs Quilt"

I think it gives the quilt even more personality!
Plus, it's great for documentation

*Edited to add* And I always label my quilts.

I think it is a fun way to remember a special quilt, and distinguish them :D:D:D

I equate it to an artist naming their paintings. If it's just a utility quilt, I rarely name it. Even then, it winds up with a name - we have a yard quilt, a picnic quilt, and a tent quilt. But if it's one I'm going to give or present, I do give it a name to distinguish it from others. And it's fun.

I like naming my quilts, but I don't name all of them. I do label them with who they are for, the occasion, my name as piecer and quilter, and at least the year I made them. Sometimes it takes as much creativity to figure out a name as it does to make the quilt, but most of the time the quilt tells me its name

So far I've never named a quilt, maybe I should think about it. You all have nice reasons. :)

I am afraid that with some of the more ...uhhh...difficult quilts that they would have names that I can't print here.

LOL - I have some of those also, Buckeye Rose.

Sometimes I can't come up with a name and they get called "the orange quilt" or whatever the name of the blocks are "flannel log cabin". Not very imaginative, but descriptive.
