    Narrow border size?

What is the narrowest border you could get away with using? I won a bunch of blocks (ornaments, really cute) and made the top but the top is now quite big. Larger than I really want but just by a few inches. It needs a border but since it is so large already I don't want a wide border. So what is the narrowest border that you would recommend using that would still look good? I am partial to a wide border so I have no clue about a narrow one. Thanks for your opinions.

Maybe you can post the size of the blocks, that would give a clue as to what the narrowest border would be likely to work. IMHO

Generally 3" is my narrowest except with baby quilts in which case I might go as narrow as a 2-2 1/2"

I have done a stop boarder about 2 inches.

Does it need a border? You could just quilt and bind with a nice color to compliment the quilt. If you are sashing your blocks the border could be the same width as your sashing strips

This is what I was going to say. I hardly ever put a border on a quilt anymore, I like the look without them.

My thought too. A contrasting binding will frame it like a border without the added inches or work of one.

If you want to go with a narrow border, consider doing the binding in the same fabric.

I agree with skipping the border. Can you do a really wide binding and get the same effect? We have done bindings that start with 3.5" strips and they look very nice. This quilt has a 3.5" binding: Cross and Crown

Is is there batting in that wide binding or is it just fab against fab? Or did you fill it before finishing... Just wondering
