Necchi BU - black - has a gold monogram on the machine bed

Saw one at a garage sale this morning - even wrote down the address so I can get there again -

It hasn't been used in over 20 years - in a small cabinet - knee control.

It's very stiff - but the light works!

It has a belt on the outside -

Asking $25.00

Would this be a good buy?

I'd go for it. Those old Necchis are great machines.

Go for it - almost any of the older machines are 'good ones'. Even if they need to go to the machine doctor for a quick visit - they are almost always less than a new one.

I owned a '57 Necchi for 40 years. Sold it for $75. Made in Italy and a good machine. Mine was heavy but I sure sewed a lot of stuff on it. Only had it to the repair shop once. Was even shipped via bus to Calif. once. It went where I did. Go for it!!!

check out ebay prices. I paid $27 for mine which is older than yours and a BF, so no zigzag. I saw it ebay that evening for #399. Go get it, but do not sew on it until you clean and oil it well. There are directions in the Necchi yahoo group. Necchis and Elnas are made with very little clearance - very exact machines, so they need to never be used without oiling.

It looks like it has zigzag, three needle position, forward and backward, and a knee control.

We had trouble figuring out how to "make it go"

It isn't exactly seized up, but it wouldn't turn - so we backed off with trying.

I oiled the top parts of it thoroughly and let it set for a while -
tried to get at the bottom, but am having trouble getting it tilted far enough back -

Anyway - tried running it a couple of days ago - it RUNS - - the main "noise" it makes is from the belt - the mechanical part seems pretty quiet.

Now to see if it will actually sew something!

Got it running!

I'm having a dreadful time threading the needle for it, though.

The belt is the noisiest thing on it.

Lost two screws for bobbin cases - stole one from another case.
Hope I find the other two. They are SMALL!
