Default Need advice on Sewing mahcines

Each year that I work Tax Season, I treat myself to a gift at the end of the season. I want to get a new sewing machine this year. I need advice on which one to get. Here is what I want: I want it to be able to quilt and possible embriordery ( but embrod is not really critical), I want and extention arm on it and a high throat so I can "attempt" to free motion quilt. Any suggestions...Oh, one last thing...I am not rich by far, so I really do not want to spend anymore than $600.00.. Ok anybody got any suggestions??

I just ordered the Brother PQ-1500 for $599.99 no tax and free shipping. I wanted one mainly for FM. It has a 9" space. It only does straight stitch but I have my other machines for other uses. It does have a lot of good reviews. There are some board members on here who have this machine and have all been happy with it.

Why not look at a 'gently used' high end machine? You will end up with a better machine which may still have a warranty and will last longer. Check out your local quilt stores to see what they offer.

There are no perfect machines out there and it would be hard to get all of the features you want in your price range. I'd recommend shopping for a used higher end machine. I recently picked up a Husqvarna Viking #1+ for $200 on Kijiji (Canadian version of Craig's List). This machine had originally sold for $3600 and had been sitting in a closet for at least ten years with many of the embroidery components still in the original sealed cartons. It had extra cards and plates and hoops galore. I'm playing with it, getting to know it and loving it. It sews rings around my Janome 6500 which cost me $2100 new in 2004.
