Ok here what I have done, I made a tote and place a matching throw large enough so they could lay on it and color. Then I filled it with puzzles, coloring books, crayons, toys that they can use in the car.

I agree with the idea of a tote for toys, for his/her room or in the car.

Could make it quilted and then instead of batting, but cardboard pieces inside it for stability.

Or buy a cardboard office box and hot glue fabric to it.

Thanks everyone. I'm going with a tote with seashells, glue, glitter & wooden frames. This family has a beach house & I'll bet the parents will put the frames to good use.Lots of great ideas.
