I need a good book for applique. I want to learn but due to my work schedule I am unable to get to my LQS for lessons or advice.
Any suggestions? I want to do machine applique if that helps.

Just go for it!! A book might help, but you can do it without one. By machine, it is really pretty easy.

I cut my background fabric oversize and starch it heavily.
Generally, I use the Eleanor Burns method of turning the edges under with light weight fusible interfacing because I live in fear of frayed edges. After I have things fused in place, I either use a tight zig-zag stitch or a blanket stitch depending on the look I want.

I learned to machine applique from Harriet Hargrave's book on the subject. Here is a link to the current edition of her book:

She covers multiple methods and provides a *lot* of very helpful tips for getting started. Lots of great photos too, at least in my older edition of the book. I think parts of this book may be available for viewing online; ran across it sometime last year.

I do allot of machine appllque use wonder web or lite heat bond and do a blanket stitch around the edges without turning under...Sew Simple.

"Applique The Basics and Beyond" by Janet Pittman is a very good book. It covers equipment and supplies, techniques for applique, projects, and patterns. This book is very well written with lots of pictures. I found my copy at Barnes and Noble, but it is also readily available online.
