I really like Quilter's Academy, Freshman Year by Harriet Hargrave and Carrie Hargrave. I think they've sent the third book to the publisher and are working on the fourth of six right now.

Cheers, K

I just ordered Alex Anderson's Hand and Machine Applique book based on the reviews at Amazon (I think those were of the Hand Applique book though) in hopes that it would be a good starter book for learning Applique.

Recommend Georgia Bonesteel's book "Lap Quilting". All templates result
in perfect squares. You can "quilt as you go" or assemble blocks in one
top, then hand or machine quilt.

I learned to quilt using Alex Anderson's Start Quilting book, my first project was the rail fence quilt.

A book that has helped me immensely because she has great drawings on how to construct, cut, sew, do binding, etc. is Bits & Pieces Quilt by Anne Dease. I still refer to it often.

If you want to do baby quilts I think Ursula Reike's books - Quilts for Baby Easy as ABC are excellent. There are 3 in her series, very beginner and user friendly

I agree-"Quilter's Complete Guide by Fons and Porter".
That's the one quilt book I keep within reach.

See if you can find a book by Mary Ellen Hopkins, ex: "It's ok if you sit on my quilt" Not a new book, but good for beginners as are her others.

I can't recommend a book, but I am pretty new myself and just recently became aware that there are numerous quilting videos on UTube. I watched a couple today on binding and mitering corners and they were very clear and helpful. Good Luck!
