Exactly, what does a full-sized quillow look like? I checked out the previous post for the tote bag/purse.

Does a full sized one make into a pillow/blanket? The reason I ask is because I have a child entering kindergarten in August. They have to lie down and "nap". My eldest who is now 16, had to lie on this disgusting vinyl nap mat. If the quillow would work, how fun to make some in bright kid-friendly colors.

I may be totally crazy though...but that is the story of my life... :wink:

Julie, that sounds like a good idea, guess you could make any size. My friend made a fleece one for a tall teenager for Xmas. Very nice. :D

the only part is attaching the pillow to the blanket part...Maybe a trial one would help me get it straight.

they are pillows when folded up, blankets when unwrapped, not both. perhaps a square of foam cut to size could fot in pocket to use as a pillow.

Fons and Porter episode 908 has a great video on how to make a quillow.
The blanket part is measured 3 times as wide as the pillow minus 2 in.
So if you make the pillow 14 inchs then the blanket should be 44 in wide.

Those instructions are tough.
Put the fabric right sides togather with batting on the bottom not on the top. Sew 3 sides togather, trim,turn. This is the pillow part.
The blanket part is done the same except you leave the opening on the side for turning. The pillow part is sewn on the top of the blanket, open part in seam. Round the corners. Trim, turn. Then you choose which side you want the pillow part sewn to. It is like a flap at this point. Sew down both sides of pillow part and all the way to the bottom of blanket part. Then you fold both side in on the stiche line, then fold from the bottom and tuck inside the pillow part.
It is so hard to explain without pictures.
Be sure and center the pillow part to the blanket part before sewing on.
Iron afer you turn.

I have made two of these so far. On the first one I used prequilted fabric. It kind of made the pillow hard (not soft). On the second one I used fleece. The pillow is very soft on this one. I plan to make more and I'll use the fleece on them. I have the fleece one in my car. I can use it as a pillow or if I'm cold I unfold it and use as a blanket. I think that everyone should have one of these in there cars. The fleece one was very easy to make. I didn't even have to hem the sides. all you have to do is sew a square of fleece on the bottom in the center.

Oops, my math is flawed. 14x3=42 minus 2=40. Also make the back and batting larger just like a regular quilt.

The pillow goes inside the two fabrics that face each other and you center it. Boy am I a lousy teacher.
