Default Need help calculating yardage needed.

I need a little help in calculating yardage needed to cover a old featherbed. I looked at the ticking fabric at Wal Mart today is it is almost $5.00. The length is 6 foot and the width is 4 foot 6 inches. Material is 45 inches wide. Would I need 8 yards? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks

For your 54"x72" featherbed, I'd go with 6½ yards if you use a horizontal seam and 8½ yards if you want a vertical seam. That's covering both sides and making sure there's enough extra for small mistakes, the featherbed's thickness, matching up the ticking stripes, and squaring up the clerk's cuts. You might want to use ½" seams, too.

Thanks so much. Since I am doing this for a friend (for free of course) I didn't want to spend more than necessary.
