Can any of you give me some suggestions on patterns and colors that a fellow graduating from grade 12 might like. Don't have any teenagers that age anymore.

I did a simple 4 patch with a focus fabric in between and my son just loved it. I do believe they like the fact it is made for them and if you pick something that makes you think of them it will be valued. Have fun making this gift.

School colors - maybe for the college he will be attending? Or ask his mom what his favorite colors are and then try to work around any interests he may have - like sports or music. Best of luck with your project!

I love the idea of school colors, or black and white. My boyfriend still has a quilt on his bed that his mom made him as a teen ager. Its got a fairly simple black white and red star on front, and a novelty print on back.

I agree. School colors with mascot or if going to college, definitely do college theme. If it's a university in the area you can usually find the licensed fabric. My son has a Texas A&M one with the football stadium on it.

Could you ask him , what colors he likes? I am making one for my GD ; she had always liked purple, so I was collecting purple fabrics. And when I asked her a year ago what color she would like for her graduation quilt --she said pink and black.

Here's a simple solution...just ask the graduate! Everyone has a favorite color. When he tells you what it is, you can expand on it! Have fun and show us what you make!

Thank you for your ideas. I was digging through my books and found a few interesting ideas. Log cabin, 9 patch pizzazz, shaded blocks. I will be talking to his mom after easter so she might know what colors he likes. If you think of anything more be sure to post it as I appreciate all the ideas I can get.
