Sorry but my brain is not working. How much fabric do I need for a border if the inside of the quilt is 54.5 inches by 80.5 inches. I wanted to use a 6.5 " border strips. But for the life of me I can't figure out how much yardage I need.

if you add all the sides together you come up with 270". however, if you add the vertical borders first, you will need 6.5" more on each horizontal border, which adds 13", making it 283".
you can get 5)pieces out of a yard if you are cutting WOF {40X6.5} so i would get 1.5/8 yds minimum. if you don't want your borders pieced, it will be different.

    hope this helps!

You need to add the "Fabric Calculator" to your wish, birthday, holiday wish list!

I usually try to buy enough so I won't have to piece the borders. So I would figure for 80.5 inches, I would get at least 7 feet and to be extra safe I'd get 2 1/2 yards.
I will cut the borders along the selvedge edge and I just accept the the leftover will go in my stash!
    Happy Quilting!
