    Quilting Nan is right, this would be the only way I can see being able to do this block by paper piecing.

    I KNEW you folks could do this!! Two good ideas, now to try each and see which one works best for my purposes. I hadn't thought of the freezer paper idea, although had done some fiddling around trying to applique the pattern. And Nan, that corner is a great solution.
