Default Need help piecing melons

Hi; I am making the madrid melon quilt by Alissa at Backporch Designs. I have cut the melons and the two L shapes very carefully. When I stitch the melons to the L shapes I end up with about a 1/4 inch extra at the end of the L shape. I am sewing very slow and carefully with the Ls on the bottom..tried it the other way but no change ..I try not to pull the bottom fabric but am stumped as to why this happens. Also when pressing the unit I press the first seam toward the melon then the second seam I press to the L. Is this right? Would appreciate any advice you have..Thanks

Interesting pattern. Good luck with your seams.

I have used the curvemaster presser foot with great success on curves. Sandra Chandler has a YouTube video in it. Check it out. You might want to purchase it.
