Welcome to the Quilting Board!

I’m taking my first quilting class and just got the supply list. I understand everything on it except one line that says “Rotary cutter, mat, and guide.”
What kind of guide are they talking about?
what kind of quilt/pattern? would the guide be your ruler? maybe it's a shaped template?
It's a beginner quilt class called Start Quilting. The quilt we are making is called Stair Step Rails from a book called Quilts for Baby- Easy as ABC and it's on page 32-33.
I think its a big rectangular ruler since there is no other ruler listed on the list of required supplies.
It must mean ruler...is there a ruler listed? If not, I'll be that's what they meant. Call the LQS offering the class and see what they say!
It could be a ruler or maybe something to make sure you have 1/4 " seam.
They mean a ruler, so you make straight cuts with your rotary cutter.
I am pretty sure it is a ruler...they are a must-have when cutting fabric. A 6 x 24 will satisfy most of your needs.
I would think any one instructing a beginner class should know better then to use a term that would cause confusion.
Have a great time in your class. I love going to classes.
I would think they mean a ruler. Those three things are usually lumped under the general tools section.Originally Posted by Kryssa
"Guide" It has to mean ruler. It's what you hold to guide your rotary cutter. If you want a sneak peak there are good how to "cut with a rotary cutter" demos on Youtube.
