I was sewing with my treadle and needed to put on a new spool of thread. When I began to sew again, the thread would not pick up the bobbin thread. I have re-threaded the machine and re-did the bobbin but nothing is working. What an I doing wrong or what should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Is the thread path the right way and is the needle threaded the right direction? What kind of machine is it?

Yeah. I double-checked the threading. Re-inserted the bobbin. I just don't understand what the problem is.

The machine is a Davis Coronell.
Thank you, folks, for all your help

Did you replace the needle?

I don't have replacement needles, yet. Would it be that likely to cause this problem within about 5 minutes of running properly?

Does anyone know where I can get needles? I know they are not the same as the ones in the fabric stores.

I was just doing some research on this machine and found that it might be a New Home rather than a Davis. It looks like the machine pictured here - http://www.thetreadlersvillage.com/N...925manual.html

Okay the run down for a VS machine........

Check to see if your bobbin is inserted right and not binding inside of the shuttle. Then see if the shuttle has any abnormal wear on it. I had a 27 do the same thing yours was doing and the shuttle was worn slap out. I replaced it and it works like it should. You should oil the shuttle and the radius that it rides in that is where the wear comes in to play. Maybe the needle moved a tad and is not seated all the way up in the holder or the needle might need to come down a bit. With the shuttle plates off of the machine and shuttle installed turn the hand wheel and watch what happens. Is the shuttle passing the needle at the right time? Is the shuttle going through the loop the thread is making, and is the thread making a loop for the shuttle to go through. Is the tension on the top thread to tight?

Check these out to make sure that its working properly and adjust as needed. Also this might seem really stupid but is the machine going in the right direction?

I moved the needle down and it finally caught the bobbin thread. Thank you for your help. I appreciate your time.

Now I can get back to sewing.
