There is this man in the town that I live in that I often see out and about...he is fairly young, and is physically disabled. I have no idea what the problem is, but he rides a stretcher kind of thing with wheelchair wheels on the front and lays on his belly flat out and wheels himself all over town on this stretcher.
Anyway everytime I see him I am so inspired by the way he hasn't let anything slow him down. Winter and summer he is out there with a plain white sheet wrapped around his body...and he goes everywhere.
I would like to make him a quilt. I just have not idea what to put on it...a saying...applique images...a story...NOT BLOCKS...haha...I can't do those.
Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe an eagle... I think he may be native. Maybe some native symbols? I'm stumped. Ideas please!

Your idea of an Eagle sounds neat. And surrounded by Maple Leaves perhaps.
I'd probably eye measure him and most likely make the quilt about the size of a twin sheet, and possibly with velcro so that he can fasten it around himself before rolling onto the wheeled bed.

I'd also try to find someone who knows him and have a man approach him to see if he would accept such a gift from a stranger. After more than 28 years volunteering in a hospital I've discovered that most handicapped persons want straight to the point questions and answers, so you might suggest that to your contact person.

This site may have an eagle pattern you could use. I've bought from her before, and every time you buy she puts you in a drawing for a free quilt. http://www.nativeamericanstarquilts.net/

Oh! Thank you for the velcro idea...I was kind of wondering a way to make it easy for him to roll himself into. Our winters here are not kind!
I don't have a clue who would know this man. He is always alone. I am going to just make something and keep it in the trunk of my car. When I see him I will just give it to him...God will take care of the rest...after all, it is He who usually gives me the thought of what He wants me to do:)

That is a great start...very simple applique and I can add to it with the rest of the eagle done in those same simple lines. Thanks!
