I have never done a fabric swap before and I was (happily) recruited to join an international fabric swap. I need to find fabric that represents New Jersey. I can buy it by the yard and cut down to FQ's.

The only themes I could think of were:
1. traffic (can't find any fabric for this)
2. tomatoes (jersey tomatoes are awesome)
3. jersey shore (but lots of states have beaches/shore)
4. apple pie (then i am just going with an all american theme).

I am really excited about this swap and wanted to send a good number of FQ's in so I could make a cool quilt when I get them in return.

Any opinions/suggestions? Any fabric you have seen that would work ? I have found the apple pies and tomatoes but no "traffic" fabric.

Thanks...

NJ makes me think of Atlantic City and gambling. How about fabric with dice, coins, cards, etc.?

I've seen traffic sign fabric. Or how about NJ sports teams? Sounds like a fun swap!

Also I Googled "what NJ is famous for:" http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...7183024AAaoiPq

My friend that lives in NJ always uses the Garden State theme and makes her swap blocks with vegetables.

It is the Garden State which is why I thought of tomatoes. However, there are alot of other states that would come to mind much quicker when you mention farming.

New Jersey is famous for having more highways per mile... which is why I was looking for highway/traffic fabric. I couldn't find any.

Although the Mets and the Giants both play in NJ, they are both NY teams. NJ Devils and NJ Nets are the only NJ teams and they don't sell fabric for those.

I did think of the gambling but I think Las Vegas is so much more known for that.

If I can't find traffic fabric, I will probably go with the tomatoes.

I always think of the seashore, since that is where I go when I am in NJ, so maybe lighthouses, beach scenes, sea shells, beach umbrellas?
