I've been pretty happy with Polder. They do have the holes, but are pretty sturdy. I've had mine in almost constant use since about 1995. Most of the boards have those holes for two reasons. To prevent fires and to make the board lighter.

Current piecing: Zig Zag quilt & LOTL (HSTs done, assembling units)
Hand piecing project: Apple core (TOP IS DONE!!!! Yay!)
