Need pattern help
I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum. I am looking for suggestions for a beginner pattern for large print fabric. The fabric had airplanes on it. For some reason I can't get it to load the picture for you guys to see. Anyway my husband helps restore WWII planes and i bought fabric with several WWII planes on it. The print is rather larger but also spaced out. I am very much a beginner quilter so I need a relatively easy to follow pattern . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will also be adding solid color fabric to break up the fabric pattern. thanks so much and sorry for babbling

This is always a good one for large prints plus some coordinating fabric!!!

You could fussy cut the planes out. That means you cut a square out of the fabric where the plane is, keeping the plane in the middle. Fussy cutting is easiest if you have a clear square template the size you want. Then you could add a plain border around the square. Or use the square in Sawtooth stars. http://www.multi-patch.com/html/sawt...r_pattern.html

I love the first BQ for leaving the big print patterns so that you can see them. The pic is one that I made for a dear cousin who is fighting cancer. It takes one afternoon to cut it out and 1 to sew it together. You can be quilting by the 3rd day. You only need 2 colors to go with the print. I used the large block, think it finishes out to be 18".

Edited to add: If all your planes are directional, then you have to take more care with your sewing the blocks, otherwise some will end up upside down.

I second the BQ pattern. I also like Warm Wishes. The blocks are a bit smaller, but you could size them up very easily.

You can see from the pattern, its just a rail fence variation and unpieced blocks. You just need to keep your eye on the layout. Hope this helps!

I agree with previous posts. I LOVE BQ, BQ2 and BQ4. Warm Wishes is also a very simple quick quilt. I am thinking of making the main focus fabric larger by cutting it 8.5" instead of the 6". Haven't had the chance to try that out making a larger quilt than a crib size.
