I have an old Fons & Porter magazine that has a very simple pattern of plain blocks, plaids and stripes, all the same size, whatever you want (3, 4, 5 inch, whatever). Just piece them together but alternate the direction of the stripe or major direction of the of the plaid pattern every block. Super simple, but alternating the fabric direction add subtle interest.

I think "Homespun Rails" by Mary Johnson would be perfect. The website is wonderful, with lots of free patterns.

Post homespun idea

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. Now if only I could decide which to make first:-) I think I was gifted enough fabrics to make one of each. Again, many thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. Lena

Here is a link that I've been saving for quite awhile; one day maybe I can get enough homespun to at least do one as a table runner. I love this french braid with this fabric

Wow! What a lot of good ideas for using homespuns. I have a box of them but haven't used them for anything as yet. These give me some great ideas.... Thanks.
