I would like to make a Christmas theme quilt for my cousin for Christmas 2011. I like applique and piecing (but not paper piecing). I am planning to make it lap size. I'd be pleased if you share your ideas and/or pattern sources with me.

I am still working on Christmas 2009

Anyways depending on what you want - for applique if you Google "coloring pages" and say "Christmas trees or Reindeer or whatever " you can use those for patterns

I recently saw a pattern in recent Quilt Maker I believe, or Quilter's World. It was a wall hanging and had an applique Christmas tree on it composed of ornaments. Now, I think it would be easy to make it a lap size quilt of the pattern by adding more rows of the ornaments increasing by one or two ornaments as you go down to the bottom of the tree. I think it would be fun to find all sorts of scraps for the ornaments. The pattern used wool, but you don't have to do that.

Have you seen the adorable Chicken's Secret? If not, search the board. I'm making one as soon as I get the pattern

If you want a quick and easy lap quilt that can be done in a matter of hrs or few days...try the bargello on a larger scale...with Christmas fabric....I'll post some I've done just to give you ideas of what you can do....

These are Table toppers but I've done lap quilts by building a scene with up to 6 diff fabrics at wider widths..sew simply and everyone loves them....

Piece O' Cake designs has some great Christmas themed designs in applique. They have a website. They also have several books on applique. Also try amazon.
