Lightbulb Need Recommendations for Best Way to Raffle an Amish Quilt

Hello! I volunteer at a non-profit Hospice House in Southeastern Wisconsin, and we are raffling a beautiful Amish quilt with hand-appliques on April 16, 2012. We will be set up at sewing stores to sell tickets, but I was wondering if someone might have some suggestions on other places where we might successfully sell raffle tickets. Funds raised through this raffle will benefit Hospice House residents who are not able to pay for room or board. The tickets are $2 each or three tickets for $5.00. Thank you so much for your help! --Michelle

Get friends, relatives to take a book of tickets to their workplace. Call on very busy stores (hardware stores, pharmacies whatever) ask management if you can place books of tickets on their counters. You will be surprised at how quickly they sell.

@Earthwalker, Thanks so much for the suggestion! I can already think of places where I can ask to place the tickets.

Would hospitals or labs or other medical related institutions be willing to post a poster of the event with information on how to enter? Quilt guilds?

@Treasureit, Excellent recommendation! I just might have a hospital connection.

I've done well with banks selling tickets on raffle quilts to help support 4-H fairgrounds. These were local small town banks. Maybe if there were community events such as a fair or parade during which you could set up to sell tickets.

Be sure to have a good color photo of the quilt stationed with the raffle tickets. Being able to see the quilt helps sell tickets.

When possible, it is advantageous to have the actual quilt on display when selling tickets. This isn't always easy to do, but it can be done when setting up a station with workers selling tickets at special events. Otherwise, pictures or a flyer about the quilt and the fundraising project can be distributed.

If connecting with a hospital, their auxiliary is a good resource. They might invite you to speak at one of their meetings and present the raffle quilt.

If your Hospice organization has a board, pool your ideas with board members about community contacts for raffle ticket selling venues. You might also use your newsletter to publicize. It seems that people who have benefitted from Hospice services are often eager to support the services that will help other families.

Best wishes for a successful raffle!
