Default Need some advice for diaper changing pad

I have been asked to make a simple diaper changing pad and matching burp cloth. I do have a pattern for the burp cloth so that seems to be an easy fix. I have not sewn anything like a diaper pad so really don't know how to begin. Would you use flannel and maybe a thin batting inside using the birthing method or would you put the three layers together and simple straight line quilt before putting a binding on? Can anyone suggest a good size? Wondering too if flannel and fleece might be a good option. Thank you all for any information you can give me to get started. You are all such a remarkable group and so willing to help. grammasharon

I would back it with PUL fabric, which is waterproof. If you google changing pad pattern, there are lots of free designs that come up.

Thank you PaperPrincess. I will get the PUL when I can get to JAF. I did try googling and found many with tabs, pockets, and I guess what she wants is just a plain pad. Will determine th size and make like a small quilt. Thank you for your help.

Quilting Grandma thank you for this site. I will look at it and then get my fabrics together.

I make mine 18x22" with flannel on one side & cotton on the other. I use W&N or W&P for batting & bind with standard double-fold French binding. I do them for practice pieces for my FMQ work. One thing to keep in mind is to be sure to wash/dry everything on warm/medium because that's often how they're laundered & they will shrink.

Thank you Bree 123 that is exactly what I was wanting. I did wash and dry the flannel. I will find some cotton and do the binding. Wasn't sure how it would work with the birthing method and then quilting so it would hold together. I think I like the binding idea better. I am able to do a nice binding after much practice. lol
