First let me explain the week or shall I say two weeks that I have had.

There was a very sickly elderly lady that my aunt was taking care of. She was no blood relations to the family. She had been 1 of my aunt's mother in law and has been in the family for as long as I can remember.

When the quilting bug bite me, she is the one that I gave my very first quilt to at the beginning of winter

She past away at home with her only granddaughter, my aunt , myself and my daughter there, last Thursday. She was a very special lady with a big heart and loved everyone as thought they were her own.

As I became close to her,She explain that She had everything planned out when her time came and want me to make sure that everything went as she had planned, and that I would help her granddaughter when the time came since the granddaughter had no one else that would stick with her. To which I was more than happy to do.

She was laid to rest the past Monday and EVERYTHING went as she had planned.

On the same Thursday when she passed away, I received a message from my daughter that a friend's son that was surving in the Army was killed in action.

My daughter and son in law is out in AR with his family, burial will be tomorrow .

Here is where I need your help.

I want to make something on the lines of a lap quilt or a wall hanger,
I have purchased material with the large army logo, some white, some red, some blue and some with the small army logo on it.

I dont want to spend a year on this, so I will be sending it out to be quilted.

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

In Honor of a 20 yrd old True American Hero CPL Loren Buffalo

The loss you tell of is so very sad, both of them. The soldier, of course, hits me so close to home; I pray for his family.

Google "Quilts of Valor", or "American Hero Quilts", or check out some patriotic quilts here. http://quilting.about.com/od/picture...Dad-s-Quilt.ht

What a wonderful thing for you to do, to make this quilt.

It always makes me so sad to read about the loss of such young men. I hope someone is able to come up with a suitable design for you.

I forgot to mention that I will be sending it to his mom when finished. Also will be making a couple of pillows for his 15 year old brother.

You might want to do like a round-robin around the large Army logo. This is far from perfect, but here's a QOV that I recently made. Also, since these are intended for lap quilts, the QOV recommended size is 55" X 65".

My heart goes out to this family for all of them gave & are sufferring the "ultimate sacrifice". I worked as a nurse at a VA Medical Center and casualties are so very, very sad. Regardless of one's personal politics, any and every life lost in a war is a tradgedy.

make it simple and easy. It is the thought that counts and not the complex design you create. Even tho you have purchased the fabric with the army logo, my I suggest you us it sparingly and not necessarily as the focal, but rather a cheerful more generic quilt.
