Needle threading
I have a new Janome 1600P with a gracie quilt frame and I am having a very difficult time with the auto threader on the sewing machine. Does anyone have trouble with this and can you tell me where to find a video showing me how....thank you so much Quilting Board

On most auto threaders, the secret is to have the needle in exactly the right position when you thread. On my Bernina that is accomplished by hitting the foot control with your heel, or I think you can also use a needle up/down button on the machine. I would guess that there's a similar procedure on the Janome to get the needle to that perfect position.

Thanks Joset. I am still a newbie and the machine kind of intimidates me. I wish I had an in depth video to watch telling me step by step. I am a visual person. The place where my DH got it for me the man came over, set it up and gave me some direction but I wish I had the visual right with me. I have to practice more. What kind of thread do you use to machine quilt with? Thank you everyone...

Have you checked YouTube for any videos on how to work your self threader? There is probably a few videos there. I always go to YouTube when I need help and always find what I'm looking for. Just put in the name of your machine and type in auto threader instructions and see what comes up. Hope this helps.

I had trouble with my Bernina 153 Virtuosa and went back to the dealer. He told me to always have the presser foot down when I used it to thread my needle. I also found out that the little wire can get bent a little wonky and it won't thread either. I just kind of bend it straight again, and then it works good. Hope this helps you.

Quiltersew - is your machine the 1600P, or the 1600P DB? If it's the DB, you should be using round needles, meaning they don't have a flat side at the top of the needle. And these needles HAVE to be inserted into the machine correctly. They have to be threaded from the side, not the front.
As I said, my machine doesn't have a needle threader, but I have other machines that do, and as other posters have said, the needle needs to be in the proper position and the presser foot needs to be down. Does your manual say anything about the presser foot?
