Default new 11000se vs used 12000

Hi, I have used the mc8000 for about 15yrs and upgraded to a mc9000 (200$ on ebay) last yr. both were used when I got them. I have always loved Janome. I do basic sewing crafts, quilting and embroidery. I know I've limited myself with these older machines and am looking forward to an upgrade. I have a question... would it be better to purchase a mc11000se new at 5000$ or a used 12000 for 4000$. I've never owned a new janome but was wondering if the 12000 is more advanced and a better buy used. Thanks for any help.

$5000 for an 11000 is not a great deal.
the price for the 12000 would be a sweet deal if the machine is not toooo old, still has all the accessories, and was well taken care of.

I would do a comparison on the Janome website if you don't get very many responses but I think you will get a response to your question. I live in Canada and just bought a brand new 11000se for $2900 canadian. Janome Canada was clearing their stock of the 11000 all across the country and had this sale at the beginning of summer. For me I couldn't justify buying the 12000. I would check to see if they have a discounted price on the internet and try to get a better price for the 11000se if you go this route, although be aware if you order it on line your local sewing centre may not want to do any warranty on it if you didn't buy through them.

Thanks for suggestions. PatriceJ, every Janome dealer I've seen online, ebay and amazon all list the mc11000 for 4999$ new. I can get it used 1500$ cheaper but hubby said if I was paying that much for the same machine prob better to just get it new. Since the 12000 is a newer model I thought it might be greatly improved and be worth the sacrifice of buying new to go with it. I'm just confused as to which way to go.

Go test drive you may not think the 12000 is worth the extra value, you won't know unless you test both for comparison

I certainly agree with what Sunlover53 says especially her last sentence. I would really be afraid to buy a machine like that online.

Do either machine include the embroidery unit? Also, what type of media is used for either machine? Some of the older media is getting to be very hard to find.

Both machines use JEF and JEF+ formats.

You might want to give Ann Maas' shop a call, they have had some floor models of both for pretty good prices:

I've purchased my machines there, they are a great store. I see they now do online purchases. Very friendly to deal with.

OK guys, I called the Janome store to see if they still had the used 12000 model and for their labor day special I was able to get the Janome 12000 new at 4599 with no interest for 48 months. I'm so excited to be upgrading from the 9000. Just praying it's not too much machine for me now and that I'm smart enough to figure it out.
