    new addition to my sewing family!

    I had a wonderful weekend with my daughter and her husband. His step-mother gave me a Singer AP 676059 Touch & Sew Deluxe Zig Zag Model 628 in the cabinet! It is very dirty/dusty and I don't know the first thing about how to thread it even so I haven't tried it out yet. My husband says since it didn't cost anything we should just take it and have it serviced and let them get it ready for me to use. He's right! That will be this weekends' project. I haven't googled anything on it yet to figure it out, but it looks like it will be a great quilting machine as the throat space is so much larger than my Brother CS6000i. I'm going to see if I can find a manual online for it.

    Well, wander over to the Vintage machine board and tell us all about it! I'll be getting my MIL's 624 some day . . . just got to make the trip to FL to pick it up.

    Yes, get it professionally serviced first so that you know that everything is working properly. Wish you had posted a photo. And definitely visit this forum For Vintage & Antique Machine Enthusiasts where a lot of people hang out with a tremendous knowledge of older sewing machine.

    The great thing about Singers is that the basics are almost always the same, or very similar. I've threaded 4 different models (1927 in a case, 1936 treadle [I think it is a 99 head], 1951 FW, and 1971 FashionMate), and the thread path was almost identical in each one. Even the light bulbs are the same! Once you have it serviced and find a manual, you'll probably be able to maintain it yourself.

    The Touch 'n Sews get bad raps. But I love mine, have sewed miles and miles on it, made countless clothing, kids costumes, bridesmaids dresses, other wedding clothes, curtains, square dance dresses and shirts, and yes, net petticoats! in short, everything I sew. It's been in the shop once in all that time, and that only recently.

    So I congratulate you on your gift!
