I am wanting to upgrade my little sewing machine and am wanting an embroidery, sewing machines. I see that the Brother's are going cheap but look neat. Are they junk or are their others that anyone knows about any other brands that work just as nice.

I've been using an ULT 2002 for about 8 years now and I love it. i use it for emb., regular sewing and quilting. Between my DDs and myself it is used every day. other than routine cleaning it has never been in the shop. two of my other DDs have brother sewing machines also. Not used nearly as much but they've never had a problem with either.if you are looking to get into emb.I would recommend you get one with the largest hoop that you can afford. most people I know outgrow the 4x4 hoop quickly.

I agree... you wont be happy unless you can at the bare minimum embroidery 5" X 7" pieces.
Many of the designs are starting at this size now :D:D:D

I bought a Brother Innovis a few years ago - it does embroidery (5x7), threads the needle & cuts the thread for you. It has automatic tension & is easy to use. I have quilted several quilts on it, including FMQ. I love it! I haven't had any problems with it. (except it is quite expensive to get 'serviced' - which they recommend every year, but think I'll wait for another 3-4 years before doing that again! Unless I have problems of course.)

I am selling my Babylock Ellisimo - see the classifieds here. It is the utmost and I am having to let it go at a steal! You can go to Babylock's web site and see this amazing machine.

I had a Brother 8500D and never had any problems with it. I upgraded to a Brother Innovis 4000D and have not have any problems with it either, it's about 4 years old now.

Both are combination sewing/embroidery machines but I have to admit, I never sewed on the 8500 and will probably never sew on the 4000 either for 2 reasons. I have the 4000 on top of a dresser so I have eye level access to it, it would be too difficult to move it to a table to sew. And I do a lot of embroidery and I have a really good regular sewing machine so usually I'm sewing and embroidering at the same time.

I have a designer 1 Viking machine and love it but now all the software I had went bonkers when my computer crashed and the new computer is a 64 bit windows 7 which means all new software which is very expensive. For now, I will use the 330 disc's that I made through the years. I have pictures of each page but it is difficult to find that one design you know is there. I have over 15,000 designs that I do have on a back up system that someday when Embird has a fix so things work on the new computers, I'll be able to enjoy. I will patiently wait. Still love my Designer 1.

I have had several Brother embroidery machines. They are the most used friendly machine that I know. I have a Viking SE, I like it also. The Brother is easier to use in my view.
I also have a Brother 4000d embroidery machine for sale...
